The following are awards created to recognize BGSU's most outstanding student organizations and student organization leaders. Every registered student organization is encouraged to apply for these awards. The deadline to apply is 5:00pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2008. All completed award applications should be submitted to the Office of Campus Activities, 401 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. Organization awards and most individual awards are based on the 2007-08 academic year.


Advisor of the Year
The Advisor of the Year Award is given to a student organization advisor that exemplifies the qualities of a positive role model in addition to helping students take responsibility for their own learning, while providing support and encouragement.  Recipients of this award make themselves available to organization members and use different approaches to assist members.  Advisors nominated for this award should also be dedicated and show interest in the organization, be open to new ideas and value student input, and be able to bring out strengths and talents of organization members.

Citizenship Program of the Year
The Citizenship Program of the Year Award is given to a student organization for programming that encourages social and moral responsibility, promotes greater participation in society and informed citizenship, and incorporates community service and involvement.  Programs should be initiated/organized primarily by students and have a high level of student involvement.

Cross-Cultural Program of the Year
The Cross-Cultural Program of the Year Award recipients are those student organizations whose nominated program(s) helps to embrace interaction between cultures and impacts participants' willingness to learn about another culture.  Programs should be initiated/organized primarily by students and have a high level of student involvement.

Emerging Female Leader of the Year
The recipient of the Emerging Female Leader of the Year Award is the individual who has served in their first year of leadership within their organization, have successfully adjusted to their leadership position, and have also demonstrated informal leadership - without a position or title.  This individual has maintained a commitment to personal wellness and life balance as well as exhibited a healthy balance in leadership and stewardship.

Emerging Male Leader of the Year
The recipient of the Emerging Male Leader of the Year Award is the individual who has served in their first year of leadership within their organization, have successfully adjusted to their leadership position, and have also demonstrated informal leadership - without a position or title.  This individual has maintained a commitment to personal wellness and life balance as well as exhibited a healthy balance in leadership and stewardship.


Honorary Organization of the Year
Honorary Organization of the Year is an award given to a student organization where there is increased membership participation in organization activities and the organization contributes positively to the betterment of the BGSU community.  Organizations seeking this award should also maintain an active and visible role on campus.

Most Outstanding Leader of the Year
The Most Outstanding Leader of the Year Award is given to students who model leadership for other members to follow, encourage a shared vision, and enable other members to act in a leader capacity.  Recipients also prepare others to take over leadership of an organization once their term of office is completed and maintain balance between attending to organization members' needs and overall organizational goals.  Students nominated for this award should also have more than one year in a leadership position as well as have a variety of involvement.

Most Innovative Program of the Year
Recipients of the Most Innovative Program of the Year Award are student organization programs that introduce new ideas/activities to campus, engage students in unique learning activities, and consider the needs/concerns of diverse populations.  Programs should be initiated/organized primarily by students and have a high level of student involvement.

Most Outstanding Student Organization of the Year

The Most Outstanding Student Organization Award recipients are those organizations whose activities/events were consistent with the mission and/or purpose of the organization and whose goals were accomplished or significant progress was made towards achieving those goals.  An organization nominated for this award should have made efforts to expand and diversity its membership and should have made meaningful contributions to the BGSU community.  These organizations should have placed importance on academic achievement of members and provided opportunities for members to develop and enhance leadership skills.
