Starting A New Organization
Interested in starting an organization that is not currently registered at BGSU? You can do that! Starting a new organization
requires dedication and hard work, but the rewards are tremendous. The Office of Campus Activities is available to be a resource
throughout the process.
To start your organization, register the following documents with the Office of Campus Activities:
1. A Completed " New Student Organization Registration Packet" listing the organization’s officers and a full-time member of the faculty or staff indicating his or her willingness to
serve as advisor to the organization.
2. A full roster of the organization’s membership with the names and signatures of at least ten full-time University students
interested in organizational membership.
*Organizational membership may be composed of BGSU students, faculty, and staff, but must have a minimum of 75% of the membership
comprised of students. The actual number of members may not be lower than ten. Organizations that are not able to meet this
criteria will need to schedule a meeting with the Coordinator of Student Organization Services to create a recruitment plan.
3. One copy of the organization’s ratified constitution and by-laws. A recommended format is available in the Office of Campus
Activities. Organizations should keep this document on file and provide the Office of Campus Activities with an updated copy
each time the document has been revised. The constitution and by-laws should be submitted to involved@bgsu.edu
*Students wishing to start an organization are granted space privileges for 30 days to organize and meet the requirements
for registration. The Office of Campus Activities will provide advising support during this formation period.
*Student organizations wishing to be registered will need to meet with the Coordinator of Student Organization Services or
his/her designee to develop a plan to assist the organization in its development. All aspects of the plan must be completed
for an organization to be registered and in good standing. Part of the plan may include, but is not limited to: attendance
at workshops, recruitment action plan, leadership training, etc...
*Registration of an organization results from compliance with these regulations; it does not imply University approval of
the organization or its activities.
