Establish Friendships
A good way to meet other students is by getting involved on campus. Campus residence halls also offer social opportunities and programs that will enable you to meet other residents in your hall. Friendships can emerge and grow with people you meet through classes, organizations, or social settings.

Meet Other Residents
Your residence hall offers many programs and social activities to meet other new students. Attend the events and invite other students on your floor to join you. Your Resident Advisor is also an excellent resource to put you in contact with other members of your residential community.

Interaction with Diverse Groups
Contact the Office of Campus Involvement for a listing of various multicultural groups on campus, and attend one of the group’s programs or meetings. You may also visit the Center for Multicultural and Academic Initiatives for additional resources and involvement opportunities.

Healthy Roommate Relationship
Make an effort to spend time getting to know your roommate. Fill out a roommate contract together so you both have a clear understanding of each other’s expectations. If you experience problems, approach your Resident Advisor and set up a meeting to review these expectations.

Greek Life Involvement
Greek Life is a great way to meet new people and it provides many opportunities to become involved in both the campus and the community. BGSU has a wide variety of Greek organizations to choose from, each with unique activities and values.

Maintain Family Relationships
Family relationships are one of the strongest sources of support for students throughout their college experience. In addition to contacting your family members on a regular basis, plan an occasional trip home and invite your family to visit you at BGSU.

Resist Peer Pressure
Students can occasionally find themselves in situations where they feel compelled to act or behave in a certain ways in order to feel accepted. Form friendships with students whom you feel comfortable with in place of those who have different expectations of how you should act. Maintain confidence in your individual choices and values. Visit the Wellness Connection for additional resources.

Openness to Others
The college experience gives students plenty of opportunities to meet students with a variety of different personalities, backgrounds, and experiences. Students who interact respectfully with a variety of people experience enrichment in their learning and development. Challenge yourself to meet new people and take advantage of new and unfamiliar experiences.
