Steps to Taking Final Exams at the Office of Disability Services
- Please talk with your professors a couple of weeks before your final exams - do not wait until the last minute to make arrangements.
- Please contact our office as soon as possible with your exam schedule (please specify your name, course numbers, dates, times,
and accommodations needed - ex. extra time, separate room, reader, scribe, computer, etc.). You must have an appointment for
your finals; you cannot just show up at your convenience as you may be turned away. Also, you must indicate if you need a
reader, scribe, etc., so we can have someone available at that time.
- The DS Office does not pick up or return exams. If you are unable to return your exams, you and the professor need to arrange
another way for exam return (ex. the professor picking it up, fax, e-mail, campus mail, etc.).
- For your information, we may use an alternative test site for some of the exams. Please come to the Disability Services Office
first, but please be aware that a few of you may be escorted to a classroom or different location.
- Please make sure you bring your student ID with you on the day of your exams. You will be required to sign in and present
your ID before taking your tests. Additionally, please be considerate of others and turn off all cell phones before entering
the testing site.
- You must provide us with written approval from instructors regarding any special circumstances such as open book exams, making
use of notes, etc. If you do not have a note from your instructor, you will not be able to use any outside resources.
- Our office is open Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm. Therefore, you must schedule your exam so that you can be finished
by 5:00pm. We recommend starting no later than 3:00pm. If you have an evening class, please make arrangements with the professor
to take the test at a different time, or see if the professor is able to proctor the test and provide the needed accommodations
at night.
- If you want to take your exams early, you need to work it out with your professor. Our office is fine with you taking the
exams early, but we do not get to make the decision. You must get your professor's permission.
Thanks & good luck!
