Disability Services General Information
The Office of Disability Services is located on the fourth floor of South Hall on the campus of Bowling Green State University.
In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act and applicable rules of the Department of Education, the mission of Disability Services (DS) is to provide equal access and opportunity to qualified students with disabilities. Our goal is to increase awareness of disability issues and provide opportunities for students with disabilities to fully integrate into the BGSU community.
General Services
Admissions
We encourage appointments during the pre-admission process. If you are planning a campus visit, please contact our office in advance to schedule an appointment with a counselor. At that meeting, we can discuss possible academic accommodations, documentation needed to apply for services, differences between services in high school and college, and other resources available to students with disabilities.
Registration
Priority class scheduling can be arranged by Disability Services with the Office of Registration and Records. Like any other student, the student with a disability has his/her own advisor within their department.
Student Financial Aid has information on and will assist with student loans, scholarships, grants, assistantships, and student employment. Please visit our Scholarship, Grants, and Funding Sources webpage for information specific to students with disabilities. The HEATH Resource Center at George Washington University has a large document detailing many options for students with disabilities.
Applying for Services
To apply for disability services, students must submit documentation of their disability for review by DS staff. There is no deadline to apply for services, but students should be advised that the review process can take up to three weeks. We encourage prospective students to submit their documentation as soon as they have been accepted to BGSU.
The request should include the following:
1. Request for Accommodation Form or equivalent information
2. Disability Verification Form or equivalent information
3. Most recent IEP, 504 plan, and multi-factored evaluation (MFE), if applicable
Once we’ve received and reviewed the documentation, we will notify you in writing of your eligibility status. Notification will be sent to your BGSU email account. If you do not yet have a BGSU email account, we will mail a paper letter to your permanent address.
