The Counseling Center offers a variety of services to support student success. While individual and group counseling are
available only to currently enrolled BGSU students, the Center offers consultation and outreach to all members of the BGSU
community including faculty, staff, and parents. There are no additional fees for the services offered by the Counseling
Center. Below is a list and description of our services
Individual Counseling FAQs
The Counseling Center offers brief individual therapy to students for a variety of personal concerns. Most students are able
to meet their goals for counseling in less than 16 sessions and are seen for less than one semester. Many students find that
the initial meeting itself is all they need to explore and clarify their feelings and options.
Group Counseling (Current counseling groups)
Group counseling is an excellent form of counseling that been shown to be as effective, and at times, more effective, than
individual counseling. Groups not only offer students an opportunities to get support and feedback from others, but they
are also designed to facilitate healing, learning, and change. Some groups address general concerns, while others focus on
specific concerns such as body image or managing a relationship break-up. The Counseling Center typically offers several
counseling groups based on student need and demand.
Referral
Students may be introduced to resources which offer more or different services from those available through the Counseling
Center. Referrals may be made to other offices on campus or to professionals off campus.
