If I could be any kind of shoe, I would be a tap shoe because they are energetic and one can do many creative sounds and rhythms with them. Also, they are flashy and when needed they can protect me.

Cassie Siler

2007 LGBT Symposium Coordinator

Cassie is a junior majoring in journalism, specialization in public relations.
I'm all about being myself and saying what I think or feel- a lot of people have a problem with that, but I think it's the only way to really stay true to myself and who I am. Other than that, I love meeting new people, love BG, and love my family & friends-- and nick (my bf) =) lol. I am a journalism and marketing major at BGSU. I went to Westerville – South High School, class of 2004. I think being an LGBTA-Q Intern would be an interesting opportunity for me. It pushes me out of my comfort zone a little bit, and I think those experiences are the ones that pay off the most in the long run. I have several different professional goals, related and non-related to public relations. I would really enjoy working in a field that involves children and some kind of public relations work, for example, a school, or a children’s hospital.

If I could be any kind of shoe, I would be a black pump because it’s a classic look, but it still can be dressed up, and it’s very versatile. This is a hard question because I love shoes.

Ashley Taylor

BGSU Residential Connection Coordinator and Trans-Health Liaison

Ashley is a senior journalism major.
I enjoy making people laugh and uplifting others. I am a spunky individual who has a friendly personality and enjoys meeting new people. Can be blunt at times, but no hard feelings. I love to learn, eat, and sleep. I Love Jesus and he loves me. I am a Resident Advisor in Mac. I served as the PR chair of Project Excellence mentoring program. I would like to better my communication and writing skills while working in as an RC Intern. I would also like to gain more experience in the field of publicity and Public Relations regarding minority individuals. After graduation I plan to attend graduate school at the Ohio State University, Northwestern University, or Roosevelt University and major in Marketing or Integrated Marketing Communications. And after receiving my master’s degree, I plan to pursue a career in the publicity/marketing/advertising field.

If I could be any kind of shoe, I would be a sandal so I could get some air when the feet get sweaty and smelly!

Meridith 'Magoo' Whitsel

LGBT Advisory Board Projects

Meridith is a sophomore journalism major.
I am interned in the LGBT-Q Resource Center because I would like to learn more about sexualities. I wanted to participate in this internship because I know that it will be a place where I will gain more knowledge of other lifestyles and also have a chance to appreciate them more. Some skills and experience that I bring to LGBTA-Q RC is the ability to get along with people of all sorts. I feel that I am an easy person to talk to because I do not judge people based on their values or their lifestyle that they choose. I feel that not judging a persons lifestyle is a necessity especially when working with people who have different sexualities from my own. My professional goal/career is to become a Public Relations person and be able to interact with different organizations and be able to put large benefits on as well as communicating my ideas effectively to the community.

If I could be any kind of shoe I would be a crocks shoe because they are the most comfortable footwear that I own and the best part about the shoe is that it is covered enough to be a light shoe but at the same time it is light enough with some breathing holes to be a sandal.

Stephanie Gorse

Diversity Ball Coordinator and
Outposter Project

Stephanie Gorse is a junior majoring in interpersonal communications with a focus in promotions and advertising.
I am a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Eta Sigma, National Scholar's Honor Society, IPCO, and Japanese Club. After receiving an email about LGBTA-Q and the available positions, I thought it would be an interesting and fun experience that I could benefit from. Skills and experiences I would bring are working with others, dealing with deadlines, creativity, responsibility, and working with different graphic design programs. My future professional goal is to hold a position in a successful business or company.

If I could be any type of shoe, I would be a bright red flat because it is different and noticeable, but comfortable enough to travel in and have new experiences.

Kylie Marquez

QueerQuery Editor and
Rainbow Dayz Liaison

Kylie Marquez is a senior sociology major from Port Clinton Ohio.
Being involved with the LGBTA-Q Resource Center is a rewarding experience for me because I have always wanted to be a part of a team that works to give people a voice and acceptance where there once was none. I am open to learning more about the LGBT community so I can further understand how to create change; to bring equality to people that have been discriminated against for the history of time. I would like to learn how to better understand and help LGBT youth in a counseling situation, or even a personal situation to assist in their acceptance of themselves. I’m really open to careers as long as I am helping those who need assistance to better their lives. I would like to be involved with mental health counseling, group homes, juveniles, battered women or children, education or anything else that fits the aforementioned description.

If I could be any type of shoe I would be a snazzy green sneaker. I like to be comfortable, but I like style.

Meagan Woller

Executive Administrative Assistant

Megan Woller is a second year Ph.D. Candidate in Biology.
I want to take a more active role in the LGBTA-Q community. I am dependable and responsible individual and at times quite friendly. I wish to share my experiences as an out lesbian, biologist, daughter, sister, and wife to all BGSU students. I want more exposure in the LGBTA-Q community, a better understanding of the GBTA community. In the future, I will be a research scientist at a university in mathematical ecology.

If I could be any type of shoe, I would be a pair of black stiletto heels in a lesbian’s closet. That way, I’d rarely be worn, so I could retain my looks and yet be assured that I’d be chosen for the most special occasions.

John Solan

Fraternal Organization Liaison
and Special Projects

John is a senior in Telecommunications.
This might sound ridiculous, but I feel like this is something that I’ve been called to help with. I am in dire need of an internship and this fell into my lap, also I feel like the LGBTA-Q is a community that needs support from other groups on campus, and I would like to be apart of the change on the Bowling Green campus. I work well with others (yeah total cliché). I feel like I don’t really know anything about this community on campus and I would like to learn as much as I possibly can before I graduate in May. I hope to meet more people and hopefully create friendships that extend past this internship. As of last semester, I finally decided to become a lawyer, or officially go into media law.

If I could be any type of shoe, I would be a tennis shoe because I like to be comfortable and I like the people around me to be comfortable as well. I’m laid back and I like to learn and do things quickly. More than likely a Nike shoe.

Bethany Nanamaker

QueerQuery External Writer
(Washington D.C.)

Bethany Nanamaker is a senior political science and international studies major.
I interned at the LGBTA-Q Resource Center because I wanted to better understand myself and the community. The opportunity to be involved with QueerQuery is exciting to me because writing is one method by which I can better formulate my thoughts. In short, I want to interact with people whose experiences and insight may help me develop. I want to better understand the vocabulary, the culture, and the politics of being a part of the queer community. After BGSU, I intend on applying to a PhD program in jurisprudence and/or social policy. Eventually, I would like to be a professor of constitutional law at the undergraduate level.
