Our mission is to recognize that employers make a significant investment of time and money recruiting our students, our Career Center promises to help you succeed by demonstrating our willingness to do whatever we reasonably can to ensure that your recruiting efforts are effective and efficient, and to offer innovative programming opportunities to help your organize gain access to highly qualified students and connect with key faculty.

Our three recruiting options allow us to tailor your recruiting plans to reach the desired targeted student audiences:

Career Services:  Permanent – Post Graduate
The Career Services Program is committed to supporting a recruitment process bringing competent graduating seniors and alumni to employing organizations.  We work collaboratively with employers to develop recruiting and marketing strategies to enhance their effectiveness on our campus.  Susan Gladieux, Recruiting Coordinator, can assist you in our recruiting activities including, but are not limited to: job fairs, on-campus interviews, employer information sessions, recruitment displays or information tables, and posting employment notices via online services.  Employers must adhere to all Federal Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and State of Ohio employment laws, including the Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services & Employment Professionals as established by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Cooperative Education and Internship Program (CEIP)
There are many advantages to employing BGSU co-op and internship students.  Employers gain talented, highly-motivated pre-professionals who are eager to learn and tackle projects relevant to their academic specialization.  Additionally, permanent employees can be redeployed to more critical business issues.  Employers are able to keep a “real job” filled by hiring several students year-round at a fraction of the cost for a permanent employee’s salary and benefits.  Supervising and mentoring an intern or co-op student is very rewarding and can be a developmental experience for a new supervisor.  Another reason employers hire students for internships is to meet seasonal fluctuations in staffing.  One example of this practice is that of CPA firms hiring accounting students during tax season.  Co-op and internship students produce tangible results and bring fresh perspectives and creative ideas to the workplace.  With these students, employers realize an early return on their investment.  Also, they have the opportunity to observe and assess the performance potential of future employees without obligation to hire.  A well-established co-op or internship program helps reduce recruiting, training and orientation costs by hiring graduates who are committed to and already have experience with the organization.  In addition, employers gain name recognition on campus as returning co-op and intern students share stories with other students and the faculty about their rewarding experience.

Kathy Hoke, our CEIP Coordinator, can assist employers seeking co-op and internship candidates by providing detailed information about on-campus recruiting, internship fairs, and posting a co-op/internship.  In addition, staff members consult with recruiters and managers recommending college relations strategies to establish or strengthen their organization’s visibility on campus (e.g., advertising options, outreach strategies). To learn more about the Cooperative Education and Internship Program take a look at our Co-Op At-A-Glance Newsletter.

Employers participating in the CEIP have the following responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the Career Center’s Recruiting Policies.
  • Complete the online job posting form prior to the semester start date of the work period.
  • Notify us each semester that a BGSU co-op or intern student is hired.  This is a must so that the student will receive the proper notation on his/her transcript and be qualified for the Co-op of the Year Aware nomination.
  • Complete and return the Employer Verification Form
  • Assign responsibilities consistent with CEIP’s student learning outcomes:
    • To gain practical experience while applying classroom learning at the workplace.
    • To enhance professional skills
    • To experience personal and professional growth
  • Assign responsibilities consistent with the student’s academic program and career interests.
  • Provide on-site supervision.
  • Provide students with informal feedback on job performance throughout the assignment.
  • Conduct a formal evaluation with the student each semester using the CEIP online evaluation tool.

 Job Location and Development (JLD)
The Job Location and Development (JLD) is a federal funded program.  JLD offers a unique opportunity to attract qualified students to be part of your business success. The JLD  provides employers with access to qualified, talented, and career-focused BGSU students to fill part-time, seasonal, and temporary job vacancies.  During the 2005-2006 school year, employers using JLD services submitted over 340 job vacancies and hired 1100+ BGSU students to meet their part-time and seasonal staffing needs. Peg Bucksky, our JLD Coordinator, can assist in meeting your recruiting needs by helping you develop on-campus recruiting strategies including the Summer Job Fair, arrange display tables on-campus and help you advertise your vacancies – including posting your positions on WorkNet, BGSU’s internet-based job search and online application system.  All job vacancies are posted on WorkNet so students can search the database and apply to your position openings, using the application format you desire.  JLD services are free.  As a participating employer, each year you will be asked to provide information regarding the number of BGSU students hired by your organization as well as their combined total estimated earnings.  You will also receive the JLD Newsletter and JLD Hiring Brochure giving you the latest information and events within the program.  To post a part-time, seasonal or temporary position, complete our on-line job posting form
