Volunteer Service/Service Learning
There is no better way to feel a part of the Bowling Green community than to help meet the needs of the people who live here.
Through the Office of Campus Activities, students can connect with community and area volunteer agencies. Every month community service days are scheduled on campus.
A directory of service opportunities is published annually. The office also partners with Literacy Serve & Learn, an outreach
program coordinated in the Office of the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs and designed to improve Toledo elementary
school students' reading abilities.
There are also a number of student organizations engaged in service on the BGSU campus and in the surrounding communities.

Student Organizations
Employers today are looking for individuals with a demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively with others to achieve
organizational goals. Student organizations provide excellent opportunities for skill development. There are more than 175
recognized student organizations at Bowling Green State University in which to become involved. Joining the student-affiliate
chapter of a professional association will help you learn more about key issues and trends in your field, network with speakers

Professional Organizations
Professional associations for various career fields, which contain a wealth of information for students seeking career information
and employment opportunities, is terrific idea to become involved in the student-affiliate chapter of the association for
your field and to continue your membership after you graduate. According to a study conducted for the American Society of
Association Executives by the Hudson Institute, seven out of ten Americans belong to at least one association. Professional
associations serve their members in wide variety of ways including:
- Educating their members and the public about important trends and issues
- Developing and disseminating information about career options within the field
- Providing an employment clearinghouse service for members
- Establishing forums for the exchange of information and ideas
- Offering continuing education and professional development courses
- Establishing professional standards and codes of conduct
Education Abroad
Students who step outside their comfort zone to learn in cities and towns that are filled with unfamiliar peoples, traditions,
and languages change in ways unknown to those who choose to stay behind. Those students who move forward build enormous self-confidence
and gain the ability to see the complexity of how their own country fits into the world as a whole.
BGSU students will graduate to become the next generation of political leaders, educators, and scientists. In order for our
nation to continue to thrive, our future leaders must know how to successfully participate in the globalized world of the
present and of the future. The only way to gain this understanding is to communicate with people of other cultures, religions,
