Mid-Term Grades FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) for Mid-Term Grades in CSS

 


 

   Q:  What is Mid-Term Grading?
 A:  Mid-Term Grading provides a means by which students, advisors, and student support staff can be notified of students’ academic standings in a course at the mid-point of the semester.

   Q:  When are Mid-Term Grades provided?
 A: Instructors will be able to post mid-term grades beginning the seventh week of classes through the eighth week of classes.

   Q:  How do instructors enter Mid-Term Grades?

 A: Mid-Term Grades are entered by logging in to MyBGSU and selecting Faculty Center. A grade roster icon will appear to the left of the class name once the option of entering mid-term grades has been activated by Registration & Records.


   Q:  When will rosters be available to enter Mid-Term Grades?

 A:  Mid-Term Grade roster will be created by the seventh week of the regular term.


   Q: Who can enter a Mid-Term Grade for a Class?

 A:  Mid-term Grades may be entered and submitted by those who are listed as connected to the graded component of the course.  If teaching assistants cannot access the grade roster, contact Laura Waggoner (lwaggon@bgsu.edu) in Registration and Records for assistance.


   Q:  Can Mid-Term Grades be entered via Blackboard?
 A:  Unlike the process for entering final semester grades, mid-term grade entry must take place via Faculty Center. The option of entering mid-term grades via an interface from Blackboard is not available.
 
   Q:  When will students be able to view their Mid-Term Grades?
 A: Students will be able to view their Mid-Term Grades as soon as they have been entered and Saved. Unlike the process for entering final semester grades, students will be able to view this information as soon as it has been Saved, regardless of the Approval Status field being set to “Not Reviewed” or “Approved”.
 
   Q: If students can view their Mid-Term Grades regardless of the Approval Status field, why change it from “Not Reviewed” to “Approved”?
 A: Changing this field to Approved indicates that the Mid-Term Grade process has been completed which is important for reporting purposes. Changing the Approval Status to Approved indicates that the process of entering mid-term grades for the class has been completed and they are ready to be reported.
 
   Q:Is it possible to enter some Mid-Term Grades and return later to enter the remaining grades?

 A:  Yes, it is possible to enter some mid-term grades, selecting Save and then returning later to complete the data entry. Any mid-term grades that have been entered will be visible to students, advisors, and student support staff.

 
   Q:Once the Approval Status field has been changed to Approved, is it still possible to enter or change mid-term grades?

 A:  Once the Approval Status field has been changed to Approved, it will no longer be possible to make entries or updates to mid-term grades.

 
   Q: Can advisors see Mid-Term Grades?
 A: Yes, advisors can access Mid-Term Grades via Faculty Center by selecting the Advisement Tab near the top.
 
   Q:  As an advisor who is looking at advisee information in Faculty Center, how do I proceed?
 A: From the drop down menu displaying **Student Details** select Grades and then select the appropriate semester. From the View My Advisee’s Grades page, select the Mid-Term Grades tab. The advisor will now be able to view the Mid-Term Grades reported for this student.
 
   Q: How does a student access their Early Alert information?
 A:  A student will log in to MyBGSU and go to Student Center. In the academic section, they will select the Grades link and the appropriate term. The View My Grades page will be displayed. The student will select the Mid-Term Grades tab to view their Early Alert indicators. Students will note that this tab will not appear until one or more mid-term grades have been reported for the term selected.
