Students have the benefit of Progress Reporting from two initiatives: Early Alert and Mid-Term Grading.
This early feedback to students is critical to student success.
- Connects students to the course
- Offers time for students to adjust their approach to the coursework
- Provides advisors and faculty members with early progress indicators
- Allows time for intrusive interventions to be effective
Reporting rosters will be available for all students, in all classes and it is highly recommended that instructors utilize this process in order to have the highest impact on student success.
Early Alert
Early Alert is a method of communication between faculty and students to alert the students within the first 2 to 5 weeks of potential issues that could impact their success in the class. There are currently two performance indicators that will be monitored as a part of this process:
- Classroom Attendance
- Class Performance
Early Alert is designed to alert students if they have missed 2 or more classes and/or are receiving a D or lower grade within the first 4 weeks of the semester. Advisors and support staff will follow up with students that are identified in the Early Alert to offer assistance to these students so that they achieve academic success.
Instructors will enter the Early Alert indicators for students at risk in each of their classes using Faculty Center and will update the status of the class from "Not Reviewed" to "Reporting Complete" after their data entry is complete. The early alert rosters will only be available to be updated the fourth through the fifth week of the current semester. After the fourth week of the semester, the early alert information will remain available in a "view only" mode.
For the Spring 2012 semester Early Alert submission dates will be Monday, January 23 through Monday, February 13 (11:59PM EST).
Students will have access to view Early Alert information via Student Center for their own classes each term.
