The
apparel merchandising and product development (AMPD) program
prepares students for entry-level careers in the global,
multifaceted apparel industry. The curriculum focuses
on modern merchandising concepts that operate in a consumer-driven
textile/apparel/retail complex. Courses include market
knowledge, textile product knowledge, evaluation techniques,
price control methods, computer applications, product
development strategies, sourcing, and the global issues
that influence textiles and apparel industries.

select one of two options within the degree program:

Outcomes
Upon
completion of the baccalaureate degree, students in apparel
merchandising and product development are expected to:
- Demonstrate
an understanding of the process and mathematical calculations
used to plan and control profits and inventories in
textile and apparel businesses;
- Demonstrate
competency in technical skills involved in the apparel
product development processes;
- Understand
the impact of and apply technology to product development,
merchandising, production, and selection of textile
and apparel products;
- Understand
the relationship between culturally diverse consumers
and the consumer behavior process to achieve success
in apparel business.
