Teacher licensure
Successful
completion of a BGSU teacher education program with at
least a 2.5 accumulative GPA usually results in eligibility
for one or more types of Ohio licenses. Licensure does
not result when:
-
a student does not successfully complete the state-mandated
competency (Praxis II) examination(s);
- a
student elects to graduate on Planned Program;
- a
student is following a set of degree requirements that
no longer meets Ohio teacher licensure standards; or
- a
student fails to appropriately apply for licensure immediately
following completion of program requirements.
The
Ohio Department of Education (ODE) has the authority to
change certification/licensure requirements at any time.
Consequently, students may be required to complete additional
requirements for licensure beyond degree requirements.
All candidates seeking Ohio teacher licensure must pass
the appropriate Praxis II test(s) for their licensure,
clear a background check, and submit appropriate licensure
application materials. Applications are available from
the ODE website. Background check information will be
distributed at the student teaching/internship orientation
meeting and is also available from the Student and Academic
Services Office (365 Education Building). Completed licensure
applications and associated materials should be submitted
to Student and Academic Services by the announced deadline
in the student's final term of enrollment.
Ohio
teaching licenses are not automatically transferable to
other states. For specific information regarding certification/licensure
requirements in another state, contact the Department
of Education in that state.
