In conjunction with the College of Education and Human Development, the technology education program prepares students to be qualified technology education teachers able to provide leadership in the technology education field. The study of technology education contains both a component of a general education and an integration of other disciplines or technologies through application-based, problem-solving courses.

Students in the Technology Education Program are required to participate in a 10-week field experience (student teaching). In addition, technology education majors may choose to participate in the college's cooperative education program. This semester-long, full-time paid work experience enables students to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to real work situations.

Teacher education majors or practicing teachers in comprehensive science, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, social studies, environmental science or computer science may earn certification to teach technology education by completing a technical core of 36 hours.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the baccalaureate degree, students in technology education are expected to:

  • Develop technical competencies requisite to teach the various technologies;
  • Design, implement and evaluate instruction using appropriate methodologies which focus on problem solving and decision-making skills;
