The advanced technological education major is designed for persons with an applied associate degree and currently employed in technical or community colleges, business or industry who wish to continue their education and/or prepare for advancement. The degree combines general education requirements with a core curriculum that includes an applied concentration from the student's associate degree and courses in communication, training and project management.

Classes are delivered using a Web-based enterprise portal, MyBGSU, that provides independent access, a flexible schedule, personal contact with faculty and enhanced student-to-student contact.

Building on the technical expertise gained in the associate degree and the liberal arts foundation in the general education requirements, the program consists of nine classes, all of which are offered online. These classes are designed to supplement the student's work experience and technological expertise with educational experiences in a variety of study skill sets, including computer-mediated communication, technology systems in organizations, impact of technology on changing organizations, understanding adult learning, project and program evaluation systems, and organization and presentation of information to groups.

Admission to this program is limited to those with an earned applied or technical associate degree and related work experience. Admission to the program is a two-part process: admission to BGSU followed by admission to the College of Technology's Advanced Technological Education program. Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the program.
