Engineering Technology Programs

+ Associate of Applied Science in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology

Philip D. Weinsier, Ed.D., program director

Today's society is more dependent on electronic data and communication, microcomputer electronics and industrial automation than ever before. This is evident in the increasing demand for professionals who can make informed decisions based on technical knowledge and experience. Thus, the Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology Program emphasizes academic preparation in the areas of digital and microcomputer electronics, industrial controls and electronic circuit simulation techniques. Combined with general studies and computer-based instruction, graduates are prepared for positions as engineering assistants, engineering technologists, production technicians, instrument calibration and repair technicians, field service technicians, customer service representatives and other entry-level positions in electronic engineering technology.

Students can choose from two majors, Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) or Computer and Network Engineering Technology (CNET). While both majors are firmly grounded in the fundamentals of electronics, the focus of the EET degree is on industrial controls and manufacturing, whereas CNET draws the student closer to the software and hardware aspects of the microcomputer.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates from the program are expected to achieve the following:

  • A comprehensive knowledge of electricity, electronics and computers;
  • An ability to apply acquired knowledge to energy, power, analog circuits and components, solid state devices and circuits, digital control, digital computer analysis and realtime data acquisition;
  • A basic knowledge of electronic design and manufacturing.
