Purpose
The management information systems specialization deals with intelligent
use of information technology in business organizations. The program
provides in-depth study of computers, programming, computer networks,
Internet, electronic commerce, database management systems, and
information systems analysis, design and development. The program
emphasizes application of problem-solving, communication, and
inter-personal skills combined with knowledge of business and
computers to improve a business organization's productivity and
profitability.
Numerous opportunities
for employment in the area of information technology and systems
analysis are available. Organizations need system professionals
to identify, design and develop systems, and expect these systems
to improve the organization's competitive advantage and support
the business operations.
BSBA general
degree requirements
Students completing the management information systems specialization
must complete University,
general degree, pre-professional
and professional requirements
for the BSBA degree, including admission
to the BSBA program.
Management
Information Systems specialization requirements
(24 hours)
Required courses in the management information systems specialization
include computer programming, systems concepts, database systems,
data communications, and systems analysis and design. Students
choose additional courses in areas such as electronic commerce,
decision support/expert systems, information resource management,
user interface development and microcomputer hardware/software
management.
- Grade of
"C" or better must be earned in each course taken
for the specialization.

205 and CS 360 (CS 205 has a programming prerequisite such
as CS 101 or CS 261)

300- or 400-level electives (except MIS 489)
