Purpose
Hospitality management is a specialization designed to prepare
students for managerial positions in the hospitality industry.
The program is designed to provide students with a sound education
in the fundamentals of business administration and to focus on
specific hospitality-related content.
Included in
the program of study are two cooperative education experiences
to give students exposure to the multi-billion dollar hospitality
industry. The experience and exposure to industry leaders give
students an opportunity to develop a network of contacts.
Graduates
typically start their careers as management trainees, assistant
managers or supervisors in hotels, clubs, restaurants or institutional
food companies. Advancement opportunities extend to include corporate
staff positions in large hospitality-oriented firms.
BSBA general
degree requirements
Students
completing the hospitality management specialization must complete
University, general
degree, pre-professional
and professional requirements
for the BSBA degree, including admission
to the BSBA program.
Hospitality
specialization requirements (18 hours)
- BA 310
- BA 480;
F&N 331; MGMT 361; MKT 405
- Either
LEGS 450 or F&N 437
- Two approved
cooperative education experiences and a minimum of 800 clock
hours of practical work experience in the hospitality industry.
Students are
encouraged to take elective courses in one of five areas: travel
and tourism management, marketing, human resource management,
food service management or foreign languages.
