The Office of Academic Enhancement provides advising and academic support designed to assist new students in making a successful transition from high school to the University, and provides tutoring, mentoring, and individualized academic assistance for continued and sustained success. These services are provided through the advising services as well as the Math Lab, Study Skills Lab, and Writers Lab.

Through the advising area, students may be coded into one of two programs through Academic Enhancement. Students who are undecided with regard to their academic major are coded as Pre-Major Advising. Students who are conditionally admitted to BGSU enroll through the University Program for Academic Success (UPAS). UPAS students must sign a contract and are required to fulfill the expectations of the contract in order to continue at BGSU. All students in Academic Enhancement are assigned to academic advisors who provide information to students regarding academic resources and majors exploration. Students cannot graduate from these programs and are encouraged to declare their major by the end of the third semester at BGSU.
