Three Year Undergraduate Programs

The following items have a very positive impact on time-to-degree and are important to consider.

• Completing four years of the same foreign language in high school will give you a significant advantage when you pursue a degree through the College of Arts and Sciences.
• It is beneficial to have completed math courses that prepare you to take math at the Pre-Calculus or Calculus level.
• Take advantage of curricular efficiencies. For example, these three courses; POLS 1100 (American Government), SOC 1010 (Principles of Sociology) and PSYC 1010 (General Psychology) will satisfy several requirements in the BGSU Criminal Justice program. You may satisfy these requirements by taking CLEP and/or AP exams.
• Completing a college level English composition sequence is vital. BGSU's composition classes, GSW 1110 (Introduction to Academic Writing) and GSW 1120 (Academic Writing) are often completed prior to freshman enrollment. Students considering the three-year pathway may earn these credits through participation in the PSEO (Post-Secondary Enrollment Options) program or by taking one AP (Advanced Placement) exam. Scoring three (3) on the exam earns credit for GSW 1110 and scoring four (4) or five (5) earns credit for GSW 1110 and 1120.

Students who choose the three-year degree pathway are encouraged to identify a major early and connect with the appropriate academic advising area at BGSU. Developing a plan in consultation with your high school guidance counselor and a BGSU academic advisor leads to applicable course selections for both high school and early college courses.

Participating in our three-year pathway may result in some potential sacrifices. Please consider the following.

• To complete a degree in three-years, multiple majors and minors are extremely difficult.
• Changing majors is unlikely to result in successful three-year degree completion.
• Study Abroad will be much more difficult to accomplish.
• Participation in undergraduate research may be more challenging.
• Internships/practicums/co-operative education opportunities may be more difficult to arrange.

In order to fully participate in collegiate life, you may consider summer enrollment at BGSU. Investigating summer study abroad options, undergraduate research, and internship opportunities is strongly encouraged.
