Update: Pre-Award Design Task Force
The Task Force held its second meeting on Friday, March 21. Faculty members Annette Mahoney, Bob Vincent, Emilio Duran, and Peter Lu joined the core group for this session.
The group agreed upon six elements of activities that make up the pre-award process. They are:
- Research capacity development
- Seek funding opportunity
- Prepare the proposal
- Submit the proposal for review/approval
- Accept/report the award
- Establish the project
The group broke into small teams to begin identifying specific details of each of these areas, and to develop recommendations for enhanced services for each. The recommendations address an organization-wide focus, including University senior administration and policy development as well as administrative and academic support functions.
The whole team convened to begin to discuss and enhance the small-group recommendations. This discussion process will continue in the next meeting, this Friday, March 28.
The focus of this task force on the pre-award process was assigned specifically to allow the concurrent work on the FMS system to continue to fruition before any focused work on the post-award process is initiated. However, during the course of the discussions, post-award issues and recommendations are naturally uncovered. These are being captured and recorded for subsequent follow-up.
Please share comments and/or suggestions with colleagues who are involved in the meetings. Through this iterative process, we hope the issues identified reflect those important to the broader community. We will continue to refine the work of those serving on the task force who are engaged in this important effort.

Thank you.
