2008 SAAC Awards for Promoting Student Success
Nine programs and departments have won 2008 Awards for Promoting Student Success. They are: Adolescent/Young Adult Integrated Language Arts, Adolescent/Young Adult Science, American Culture Studies, Bowen-Thompson Student Union, the Career Center, English, Music Education, Student Health Service, and Visual Communication Technology. They were selected by a four judge panel from the 20 programs and departments nominated by members of the Student Achievement
Assessment Committee.
2007 Award for Institutional Progress in Student Learning Outcomes
BGSU Wins 2007 Award for Institutional Progress in Student Learning Outcomes, given by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

From the Abstract: "Assessment of student learning outcomes at Bowling Green State University is vital to the University’s
pursuit of its mission and use of resources. BGSU’s institution wide progress toward becoming the premier learning community
in Ohio and one of the best in the nation, through specific use of learning outcomes and the implementation of program assessment
and electronic portfolios, has transformed the institution and is leading the way in documenting educational accountability
while maintaining a sharp and clear focus on what really counts, student success." Read the entire award application.

- 2006 SAAC Lunch Awards: The winners are AYA Integrated Language Arts, Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Early Childhood Studies, Economics, English, First Year Programs and Orientation, MBA Programs, Physical Education Teacher Education,
Psychology, Respiratory Care and Spanish.
- Electronic Portfolios: BGSU has joined the ePortConsortium. Based at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), the consortium's members are collaborating on the development
and implementation of software to enable easy, reliable, and secure electronic portfolios for students and faculty. BGSU's
installation has been up and running since April, 2003. We have found a very good fit between the capabilities of the system
and the university and departmental learning outcomes.
- Academic Plan : The BGSU Academic Plan guides the development of academic programs during these difficult budgetary times.
- Learning Outcomes: The University Learning Outcomes and the General Education Learning Outcomes have become completely aligned. The University Learning Outcomes and rubrics
for their assessment can be downloaded by right-clicking (Windows) or clicking (Mac) this link, picking Save as... from the
pop-up menu, and saving the file to your hard disk. It is a Microsoft Word document that you can then edit as needed. To see

Committee Charter (May 6, 1996)
Goal: Promote teaching/learning at Bowling Green State University by fostering a variety of effective learning environments.
How will we achieve the goal?
I. Assessing Student Learning at the Program and Course Level
- Assist programs to articulate student learning outcomes.
- Assist programs to develop baselines for assessing student learning outcomes.
- Assist programs to develop assessments for out-of-class student learning experiences.
II. Assessing Student Learning at the University Level
- Promote faculty development in assessment and approaches to learning.
- Facilitate articulation of university core learning outcomes.
- Draw inferences from assessment results and recommend modifications of the learning environment.
- Identify and promote model teaching/learning environments resulting from assessment analyses.
III. Assessing Assessment
- Assist programs to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of their own assessment processes.
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the overall assessment process.
- Provide a forum to address questions arising from the implementation and use of assessment.
