BGSU takes top honors in Crystal Awards Program

TOLEDO, O.—Bowling Green State University received 12 top honors, including Best of Show, at the 2002 Crystal Awards Program Nov. 21 at SeaGate Centre.

Sponsored by the Toledo Chapter of the Association of Women in Communications, the annual program honors the achievements of those in the communications profession.

Twelve entries winning Crystal Awards were produced by or in association with the BGSU Office of Marketing & Communications.

Three Crystal Awards, including the Best of Show Award in the non-profit division, were presented to special events and projects related to the opening earlier this year of the University’s new $34 million Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

“Midnight at the Union,” an event which introduced students to the new facility last January, won a Crystal Award, as did the “Dedication of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union,” which also captured the Best of Show Award. “Midnight at the Union” was produced by the BGSU Office of Marketing & Communications in association with the Toledo marketing communications firm of Roman/Peshoff. The dedication was produced by the BGSU Office of Development and the Office of Marketing & Communications.

BGSU Magazine won two Crystal Awards in design categories, the BGSU Foundation Annual Report won a Crystal Award in the non-profit annual report category, and “BiG Bike,” a photograph by Craig Bell and Brad Phalin, won the Crystal Award in single color photograph category.

“Live Out Loud,” a viewbook produced for the BGSU College of Musical Arts, won a Crystal Award in the non-profit special purpose publication, 4-color or more category, and “Love Letters Featuring Eva Marie Saint and Jeffrey Hayden” won the Crystal Award in the fundraising campaign category.

Other Crystal Awards went to the BGSU Football Poster 2002, the “BGSU Main Campus Viewbook” and the BGSU Undergraduate Recruitment Campaign produced by Communica, a Toledo advertising firm, and the BGSU Office of Marketing & Communications. Communica also received a Merit Award for the BGSU Firelands Advertising Campaign.

In addition to those awards in public relations and marketing, BGSU’s Tony Howard won a Merit Award for the television public affairs/public service documentary “Madrigal Memories of Eastern Europe,” which he wrote, produced and directed for WBGU-PBS.
