Keith Treviño is Latino ‘star’

TOLEDO,O>--A BGSU senior has been named one of four recipients of the 2002 Diamante Awards. Keith Treviño, an international communications major, will be honored for his leadership in the Latino community at the Diamante Award Gala on Sept. 28 at the University of Toledo student union.

Now in its 13th year, the Diamante Awards program is sponsored by International Mexican American Government Employees of Northwest Ohio, BGSU and UT to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to Hispanics in the area.

Throughout his academic career at Bowling Green, Treviño has been a student leader. He was instrumental in developing the Greek Independent Board, which represents local chapters of Sigma Lambda Beta fraternity and Sigma Lambda sorority, and acts as a funding source for the two Latino-based groups. He now serves as the board’s president.

He is also a scholar and mentor in the President’s Leadership Academy. A Dean’s List student, Treviño has volunteered with the Latino Networking Committee to plan the 10th annual Cinco de Mayo fund raiser and organized BGSU students to participate in the Perrysburg Heights community fund-raising event.

For ticket information on the Sept. 28 awards ceremony and dinner, call the UT Office of Latino Initiatives at 419-530-2779.
