BGSU architecture students exhibit
work at Toledo Design Center
Students of architecture at BGSU and others in geography
and planning at the University of Toledo spent the fall
semester designing a future for the city of Toledo.
Their work, featuring a scale model of Toledo, analytical
models of specific sites and drawings of model cities
from around the world, will be on permanent display
at the Toledo Design Center following a public presentation
Tuesday (Dec. 7) at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library
Main Branch. The project is titled “Urbanism Studio
2004.”
Students from the Architecture and Environmental Design
Studies Program at BGSU worked in cooperation with the
Department of Geography and Planning at UT, and the
design center. Students, faculty members, design professionals
and interested community members met biweekly for the
past four months to generate ideas for the design of
downtown Toledo.
“Urbanism Studio is dedicated to investigating
Toledo’s urban culture, cultivation of thoughtful
and effective planning, and development of urban form,”
said Andreas Luescher, architecture and environmental
design studies.
As a founding member of the Toledo Design Center, Luescher
said he hopes the current exhibit will stimulate more
students to become involved with prospective community
projects.
Luescher said the process of launching an educational
project advocating advancement of public awareness and
appreciation of design in northwest Ohio has been both
challenging and rewarding.
The presentation will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday
at the library, followed by a reception in honor of
the participants from 5-7 p.m. at the design center,
322 N. Huron St.
