  • Annual: September – August

Q:  Why is the University starting to charge employees to park?
A:  Historically, this expense has been paid by each employee’s department.  As costs continue to rise and budgets continue to constrict, we continue to pass these rising costs onto departmental budgets taking valuable resources away from the primary mission of our departments.  By migrating to a model where employees share in the total cost associated with providing, maintaining, and enforcing parking, we can preserve our limited financial resources to ensure they serve our primary mission of educating students.

Q: What are the costs of the parking permits?
A:  The cost of a parking permit will vary based upon the type of permit selected (annual, academic, fall, spring, or summer) along with the month the permit is purchased (faculty/staff permits will be prorated beginning this year).  Details and tables for the various permit times and the prorated cost can be found on the parking website at the following link Parking Permit Prices.

For classified staff employees, an increase of approximately $0.057 per hour will be added to your current hourly rate for the biweekly period beginning August 21, 2011 and will be reflected in your September 16, 2011 pay.

For administrative staff and full time non represented faculty, an additional $120 will be added to your base salary effective September 1 and will be reflected in your September 20, 2011 pay.

Q:  Will the costs for parking permits increase every year?
A:  While the costs associated with operating a parking operation will continue to increase, we do not plan to increase the annual parking rate for staff for several years.  This will allow time for parking usage and employee parking patterns to guide our future lot improvements.

Q:  If I elect payroll deduction to purchase my parking permit, how many paychecks will it come out of?
A:  The Payroll Office will pull new parking registrations each payroll, but keep in mind that processing a payroll for a specific pay date may occur up to five days before the actual pay date.  The total amount will not come out of one paycheck.  The system will take the cost of the permit and divide it by the number of remaining pays based on your employee classification and employment term.

Q:  When will I begin paying after I register for a parking permit?
A:  Paying by credit card at the time of registration will apply the full cost of the permit to your credit card in a one-time charge.  If your employment status provides you with the opportunity to select payroll deduction, your paycheck deductions will begin with the next run by the Payroll department.

A:  Recent improvements in our parking program included adding sufficient spaces to meet national standards for parking spaces per employee.  We are always working to balance parking convenience with the preservation of campus green spaces and aesthetics.  While the space you desire to park in may not be available, an adequate number of spaces are available to accommodate the number of permits issued.
