Policies

Please refer to these University policies to insure that your proposal and work complies with our standard regulations.

  • Conflict of Interest Policy
    BGSU encourages its faculty and staff to contribute to technology transfer and interactions with external entities. At the same time, the university and its employees are committed to conducting themselves and university activities in accordance with the highest standards of integrity and ethics. This policy aims to insure that all potential conflicts of interest are disclosed, reviewed, and managed appropriately.
  • Research Faculty Administrator Research Stipend
    Research active faculty members are encouraged to take on the roles of chair or director, and even assistant or associate dean. Most of these positions may not provide the flexibility to allow time for research activity. This policy provides guidance for research-active faculty in administrative leadership roles.
  • Research Misconduct Policy
    This policy is set forth to affirm and communicate the principles and values of the freedom and openness of inquiry, academic honesty, and integrity in scholarship and research, and to establish responsibilities to identify, report and handle allegations of misconduct in research.
  • Supplemental Pay Policy
    BGSU faculty may receive supplemental pay directly from grants and contracts only under exceptional circumstances. This policy provides guidance based on the Academic Charter and Office of Management and Budget Circular A-21.

  • Commercialization of BGSU Products
    The Ohio Revised Code grants that employees of state-supported institutions may be afforded the opportunity to hold personal financial interests in companies commercializing technology developed in conjunction with their research and development activities. This policy sets for procedures and guidelines for that purpose.
  • Patent Policy
    The respective rights and obligations of the University, research sponsors, and inventors relative to inventions resulting from research at the University are defined by this policy.
  • Invention Disclosure
    BGSU faculty and staff are required to disclose any and all discoveries or inventions created with university resources. For further information regarding inventions, proprietary rights, and patents, see the Patent Policy below.
  • Copyright Policy
    This policy identifies the proprietary rights of personnel and of the University in respect to copyrightable materials.
  • Software Disclosure
    BGSU faculty and staff are required to disclose software or multimedia work created with university resources using this form. The information helps the Copyright Committee (see Copyright Policy above) evaluate, protect and potentially transfer or commercialize the intellectual property associated with the work.
