Will the University do this again next year?
Q. Why was the University closed during the Holidays in December, 2003 and January, 2004?
A. As officially recognized holidays, Bowling Green State University closed on Thursday, December 25, Friday, December 26 2003
and Thursday, January 1, 2004.
In addition, the University made the decision to close on Friday, January 2, 2004. Employees were required to take vacation
time, compensatory time (classified staff), personal time or leave without pay for that day.
Due to the short work week between Christmas and New Years, departments/offices that could redistribute their workloads closed
for the days of December 29, 30 and 31, with the approval of their area Vice President. Employees were required to take vacation
time, compensatory time (classified staff), personal time or authorized leave without pay for those days.
Q. Will the University do this again next year?
A. At this point in time this is a one time pilot program for 2004. Recognized
University Holidays are posted on our web site. The day of the week on which these Holidays are observed changes from year to year. The administration
will take feedback from the constituent groups into consideration when reviewing possible future holiday closures.
