Position Summary
This position is the point person for the Office of Multicultural Affairs’ participation in Enrollment Management and New Student Orientation/First Year Programs. The person in this position also provides retention support for multicultural students and keeps the online services and Web site updated for the office.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Multicultural Advising and Retention Support – Develop, coordinate, monitor and update the online retention support services for the department (Currently the Success Track), and other department Blackboard Communities. Provide support for assessments and departmental reports. Provide support for tracking diverse student populations’ retention and provide follow up as needed. Meet with students and provide retention support for diverse student populations using established office procedures and programs.
- New Student Orientation/First Year Programs and Enrollment Management Support - Serve as the primary department contact for New Student Orientation/First Year Programs, Office of Admissions, Nontraditional and Transfer Student Services Office. Act as primary office representative at New Student Orientation/First Year Programs and Enrollment Management events, i.e., Presidents’ Day, Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR), Admissions Road Trips, Falcon Fridays, Transfer Visitation Days, Admissions Overnight Dinner, etc.
- Program Coordination – Coordinate the International Programs and Office of Multicultural Affairs US culture bus fieldtrip. Coordinate the Champions Programs.
- Web Editing and Web Updates – Update and supervise the updates of the department Web site.
- Diversity Education Support - Participate in the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) programs. Lead and facilitate diversity education workshops, i.e., NCBI Workshops, Safe Zone, etc. as needed.
- Multicultural Student Organization Support - Provide support for Multicultural Student Groups by attending meetings, advising, and acting in a liaison role as needed. Provide leadership for the department’s Ethnic Student Center space and associated programs.
- Marketing and Publications – Act as the department contact for Marketing and Communications for the publication of department marketing materials. Edit, revise, update, coordinate, order, track the spending and organize all department recruitment and promotional materials.
- Alumni and Community Outreach – Establish and coordinate department’s regular communication with Multicultural Alumni. Coordinate and perform outreach using a variety of methods to support increasing attendance/participation at department programs. Represent the department on external community collaborations such as the State of the State Conference, Diamante Award, Cinco de Mayo, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by the director.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills
- Knowledge of marketing and communication techniques to promote students, faculty, staff, community members, and alumni involvement in department events
- Desire to work with and promote the recruitment, retention and success of diverse student populations
- Can work independently and possess a commitment to continuous improvement
- Strong written,oral communication, and presentation skills
- Ability to keep complete, detailed, and accurate records; ability to gather and analyze data and to draw relevant conclusions from the data
- Word processing and computer skills
- Familiarity with Internet/Web updating
Post-employment Training & Certification
The person in this position will need to complete CMS training within the first 3 months of employment to update and manage Web site. Safe Zone and NCBI workshops/training will need to be completed within the first year of employment. Training on PeopleSoft and other data management used in the department will need to be completed within the first 6 months of employment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Marketing and Communications or any Social Science Degrees or related areas required. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with the university’s vehicle use policy.
Plus the following required experience:
- 1-2 years coordinating and planning programs
- 1-2 years working with diverse student populations
- 1-2 years marketing, promoting, coordinating and developing promotional material
- 1-2 years promoting program participation and marketing programs to multiple and diverse audiences
- 1-2 years of experience outreach and/or community service
Pre-Employment Background Check
Final candidate(s) are required to authorize and pass a background investigation prior to an offer of employment. Offers of employment are conditional until a background investigation has been successfully completed and all other pre-employment requirements are satisfied. The University reserves the right to determine and confirm suitability for employment and to end any employment already begun if the background check reveals disqualifying information.
Salary
Full-time administrative staff position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
