Position Summary
The Director of Development cultivates relationships with alumni and friends with the ultimate goal of increasing personal involvement and financial commitment to the University. The Director of Development strategically partners with internal and external stakeholders to advance the mission of Bowling Green State University.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
• Actively engage a prospect portfolio of 100 – 150 individuals/households, working with deans, other campus leaders and the advancement team on unique donor strategies
• Cultivate, solicit, secure and steward major gifts ($50,000 and greater) achieving and exceeding annual goals such as 20 prospect moves per month, 20 proposal submissions of $50,000 or more annually with a 60 % closure rate.
• Involve individuals with University volunteer opportunities with the ultimate goal of motivating financial support.
• Assist the University Libraries by developing and implementing a comprehensive college short and long-term development plan that will further fund raising activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
• Ability to understand the needs and interests of major donors in order to develop relationships between them and the University.
• Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the University’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent working relationships with faculty, senior academic leaders, trustees and other volunteers, and the advancement office team.
• Ability to articulate the case for support so that individuals “buy into” the vision/mission/goals of the university and understand with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts and pledges of $50,000 or more.
• Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical and organization skills required.
• Knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets and estates.
• In addition to these general skills, the position requires the ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:(1) to initiate contacts with potential major donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to make solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.
• Must be able to travel around the region and to other areas of the country with about 10 percent overnight travel, including weekends. Will be required to occasionally work evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required. Four years experience in higher education or related non-profit area: knowledge and experience of fundraising and development, applied to major gifts. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with the university’s vehicle use policy.
Final candidate(s) are required to authorize and pass a background investigation prior to an offer of employment. Offers of employment are conditional until a background investigation has been successfully completed and all other pre-employment requirements are satisfied. The University reserves the right to determine and confirm suitability for employment and to end any employment already begun if the background check reveals disqualifying information.
Salary
Full-time administrative staff position available. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
