OED Mission Statement
OED is an essential component of BGSU's efforts to achieve and support a diverse university community where all are encouraged
to succeed and where none are excluded from participation based on any irrelevant characteristics. Our goal, as we aspire
to be the premier learning community in Ohio, and one of the best in the nation, is to assure a healthy and productive learning
and working environment.

Our Services to promote Equity:
- Protection : OED monitors BGSU compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, as well as institutional policies and procedures
that mandate equal employment and educational opportunity.
- Investigation : OED investigates complaints of discriminatory conduct, including unlawful harassment, involving all programs and activities
conducted by the University.
- Programming : OED offers workshops and presentations through its Affirmative Direction Series on topics such as sexual harassment prevention,
diversity, preventing employment discrimination, search committee orientation, EEO, and affirmative action regulations.
- Assisting : OED supports all efforts to achieve a wholesome learning and work environment based on civility and respect.
Our Services to the Campus Community:
- Supporting : OED's Diversity Resource Center provides a welcome meeting space and is a repository for resource materials (books, videos,
lesson plans, and training materials) related to equity and diversity.
- Communication : OED provides faculty, staff and students with relevant and current information on changes to legislation, regulations,
court decisions and University policies related to equity and diversity in employment and education.
- Connection : OED provides linkages to internal and external groups that promote non-discrimination, equity and fairness in education
and employment opportunities.
- Responsibility : OED administers BGSU's affirmative action, equal opportunity and anti-harassment policies. Marshall Rose, Director of
OED is the designated Title IX Coordinator for the University.
Our Services to promote Diversity:
- Leadership : OED promotes efforts to achieve diversity including coordinating and monitoring the implementation of BGSU's Diversity
and Affirmative Action Programs.
- Training : OED develops, coordinates, and regularly offers a variety of educational and developmental opportunities in support of
achieving diversity on campus and in the broader community.
- Outreach : OED works collaboratively with campus and community leaders to affirmatively promote diversity in employment and educational
opportunities.
- Inclusion : OED is committed to fostering a diverse learning community especially with respect to race, sex, orientation, age, disability,
veterans status, religion and national origin.
