Falcon, Stroh Center letters to be installed Nov. 16

The bronze Falcon statue
On Tuesday, Nov. 16, some important pieces of the Stroh Center will be put into place. The 23-foot Falcon statue, the largest in the world, will be installed as part of the front entrance. Crews will also put the Stroh Center letters onto the building.
The statue will be part of the Falcon Spirit Plaza, which will serve as a front entrance not only to the new arena, but also to the BGSU campus and community. Philanthropist Irwin Belk donated $100,000 to cast and build the bronze statue. Belk has commissioned approximately 50 such statues for various colleges and universities throughout the nation.
The Falcon left California earlier this week and is making its way to Bowling Green on the back of a flatbed truck. It was created by sculptor Jon Hair, the owner of the Jon Hair Studio of Fine Art in Cornelius, N.C. A member of the National Sculpture Society, Hair's sculptures have appeared in galleries, private collections and on a growing number of corporate and college campuses.
Installation of the letters is expected to start around 8 a.m., and the statue is expected to be in place by around noon. |
BGSU cheerleading ranked third
in nation
Thanks to their fifth place finish at the 2010 College Cheerleading Nationals, the BGSU Cheerleaders are ranked third in the country going into the 2011 competition. This ranking qualifies them for a partial paid bid to nationals. This year's team will compete against the top cheerleading programs in the country in January in Orlando, Fla. The competition will air on ESPN in February. |
