The College of Musical Arts will welcome alumna Jennifer Higdon as the special guest speaker for its annual “All College Convocation” at 2:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 10) in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center. The University community in invited to come hear the Pulitzer Prize- and Grammy Award-winning composer.
The Wind Symphony, directed by director of bands Dr. Bruce Moss, will perform Higdon’s “Fanfare Ritmico.”
As part of the college’s events honoring the University’s yearlong centennial celebration, Higdon will also spend time with composition students during her visit.
President Carol Cartwright will give the State of the University address at 10 a.m. Sept. 24 in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. The doors open at 9:30 for coffee and fellowship.
The 15-day numbers are in, and BGSU is celebrating its record-setting fall 2010 enrollment. All state colleges and universities are required to report enrollment data to the state of Ohio on the 15th day after the start of classes.

The 15-day enrollment report also shows:
• BGSU has a total enrollment of 20,222 – an increase of 434 over last year.
• Enrollment at BGSU Firelands hit 2,517 – surpassing 2,500 for the first time in the college’s history.
• BGSU welcomed the second largest freshman class in its history – with 3,841 students enrolled for fall.
Breaking it down even further, the University welcomed its most diverse class, representing just over 20 percent of new freshmen. Over 14 percent of the class of 2014 is from out of state, with the majority coming to BGSU from Michigan.
Academic standards remained strong with the class of 2014. Thirty percent had a GPA of 3.5 or higher in high school while 63 percent had a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The overall GPA for this new class is 3.21.
Transfer students increased as well. Just over 700 enrolled, the second highest in school history.
