BGSU celebrates Women's History Month 2010

This year BGSU is celebrating Women's History Month with the theme "Women's Peace of the World."

The Women's Center and the Women's Studies Program, along with more than a dozen co-sponsoring organizations, have created a month full of events to celebrate women and their efforts for peace and justice around the world.

The keynote event is a spoken-word performance called "That Takes Ovaries" at 6 p.m. March 22 in the Honors Program Loft in Dunbar. "That Takes Ovaries" is about "bold, brazen" girls and women who have taken courageous stands for justice. Playwright Bobbi Ausubel, a contributor to the book That Takes Ovaries, will emcee the event. BGSU students coached by Ausubel will also provide dramatic readings.

• I Wouldn't Be Here If It Weren't for the Peace Corps
  March 19, noon, Women's Center Presenters: Jennifer Bartimole, Conor Harmon, Dani Kehm, A'ame Kone, Leslie Pacheco and Matt Priest, MACIE graduate students
• Screening of the C.A.R.E. documentary "A Powerful Noise"
  March 19, 7 p.m., Gish Film Theater, Hanna Hall
• Global Sex Trafficking of Women
  March 23, 2:30 p.m., Gish Film Theater
• Lifting the Veil: Women in the Arab World
  March 24, noon, Women's Center Presenter: Taghreed Abu Sarhan, American culture studies graduate student
• Women Leaders in Peace and Conflict Resolution
  March 26, 1:30 p.m. Women's Center Presenters: Drs. Ellen Gorsevski and Lara Lengel, School of Media and Communication, graduate students Anca Birzescu, Stormi Moskal and Linda Ziberi
• 11th annual Bring Your Favorite Professor/Mentor to Lunch
  March 31, noon, Women's Center

Co-sponsors for Women's History Month include the Office of the Provost, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, Honors Program, the ethnic studies department, Organization for Women's Issues, Graduate Women's Caucus, Office of Service- Learning, Office of Residence Life, World Student Association, and vision.

Summer Job Fair

The 29th annual Summer Job fair tomorrow (March 3) is a great opportunity for students to meet local and regional employers who are eager to hire BGSU students to fill their summer, internship/coop, as well as full-time, career-track positions. About 50 organizations will be recruiting at the fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
