Arts take center stage this week

The holiday season takes off in a burst of music, arts and theater at the University this week. From "A Christmas Carol" to ArtseXtravaganza "Carnivale" to the powerful harmonies of the New York Polyphony at the Festival Series, the days and nights are filled with activities for the whole family.

Attend VP for Advancement candidate forum

The next finalist for the position of Vice President for University Advancement will hold an open forum from 1:30-2 p.m. Friday (Nov. 30) in the Union Theater.

Joseph Bull, senior vice president for community engagement at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, will speak on "Positioning BGSU for Its Next Comprehensive Campaign." There will be time for questions and answers following his presentation. The forum will be videotaped and available for viewing within 24 hours.

Kids' Tech University opens world of science

Following the successful launch of the Kids' Tech University (KTU) program at BGSU last year, the University has announced the lineup of invited speakers for the 2013 program. Kids' Tech is designed to let kids explore scientific concepts through hands-on activities as they discover more about the world and nature, while nurturing the future workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by sparking children's interest in those fields.

The spring semester event is for kids between the ages of 9 and 12 who live within a one-hour driving distance of Bowling Green. There is a $25 registration fee to participate; scholarships are available.

The morning session features a talk and extended question period with the invited speaker. The afternoon sessions will include a series of hands-on activities relevant to the session topic that the children can participate in with their parents.

Registration will be limited to 150 children, and starts at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10. Register online.

Two BGSU faculty members, Dr. Craig Zirbel, mathematics and statistics, and Dr. Ron Woodruff, Distinguished Research Professor of biological sciences, are among the 2013 presenters. View the complete list of presenters and topics.

Kids' Tech at BGSU is directed by Dr. Paul Morris, biological sciences, and is funded through 4-H and a U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture grant, which calls for participating universities to help prepare the next generation of scientists.
