The Opportunity
Bowling Green State University announces a nationwide search for a Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. The Provost will team with President Mary Ellen Mazey to lead the university to increasing excellence and stature.
Founded in 1910, Bowling Green State University is located in northwest Ohio. The university is tradition-rich, yet forward thinking, and offers its students, faculty and staff a vibrant and exciting education community, and significantly contributes to the economic development of the northwest region of Ohio and the entire state. Many programs within the university are nationally prominent and highly ranked.
The university utilizes two campus locations. The main campus is located in Bowling Green, Ohio, on a beautiful 116-acre site 23 miles south of Toledo. The Firelands campus, opened in Huron, Ohio, in 1968, is sited on an additional 216 acres. The university employs approximately 950 full-time faculty and 1,500 full- and part-time non-teaching employees. Bowling Green State University enrolls more than 20,000 students (including 3,000 graduate students) and has an annual operating budget of nearly $300 million.
The university offers more than 200 undergraduate majors and programs, 47 master degree programs and 17 doctoral degree programs including 25 online programs. The Firelands campus offers 4 certificate programs, 14 associate degree programs representing 23 areas of study, 8 bachelor’s degree programs, and 2 master’s degree programs. Bowling Green State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Position
Reporting to the President, the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost is the chief academic officer of the university and is responsible for the strategic leadership and execution of the academic mission of the institution. Working with the President and Deans, the Provost will work to assure that the highest quality of education is afforded to all Bowling Green State University students.
An exciting dimension of this position is the opportunity to join a new President and administration and contribute to the development of the university’s academic vision for the next decade. The responsibilities and duties of the new Provost are to:
- Endeavor to provide the highest quality educational experience for all students.
- Work with the Deans to attract and retain a highly qualified and diverse faculty; and collaborate with and motivate faculty in their primary roles as scholars and educators.
- Develop, implement, and manage programs that recruit and retain an excellent and diverse student body and academic staff.
- Support research and academic programs to achieve the strategic goals of the university, and engage faculty and staff in maintaining a vital and relevant academic vision and strategy for Bowling Green State University.
- Lead a work environment in which participation, respect, transparency and excellence are fostered; establish and promote professional relationships and open communication.
- Encourage and nurture collaborative and interdisciplinary relationships among the colleges and schools within BGSU, as well as other institutions and partners.
- Cultivate and support growth in the research mission of the university.
- Represent the university to appropriate academic audiences and organizations.
- Demonstrate commitment to diversity as reflected in the faculty, staff, and student body.
- Facilitate strong morale and positive working environment among the faculty, staff and student body.

- An earned doctorate with an academic record sufficient to merit appointment with tenure at the rank of full professor.
