Update November 4, 2009

H1N1 vaccine clinics this week

The Wood County Health Department will offer vaccinations for the H1N1 flu virus at two clinics at the Huntington Bank Building at BGSU this week.

On Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 3-7 p.m., there will be a special clinic for PREGNANT WOMEN ONLY!

On Friday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a clinic open to anyone in one of the following high-risk groups:

- people between the ages of 6 months and 24 years,
- people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months old, and
- health care and emergency medical services workers.

Both the injectable and nasal spray forms of the vaccine will be available at Friday's clinic. There is no charge for the vaccine. The clinics are for Wood County residents (including BGSU students).

Certain people, including pregnant women and those with chronic illnesses or suppressed immune systems, should get the injectable form of the vaccine.

For more details on who should avoid getting a nasal spray vaccine, go to: http://www.co.wood.oh.us/HealthDepartment/h1n1_influenza_outbreak.htm

BGSU has requested a supply of the vaccine, but it is unclear when or if the University will receive any. For now, Student Health Services recommends students attend a clinic sponsored by the Wood County Health Department. For a full list of the clinics, go to: http://www.co.wood.oh.us/HealthDepartment/
