Stroh Center recognized for sustainability
February 10, 2012 - Bowling Green State University’s Stroh Center is now part of a select list of sustainable and innovative buildings that are Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified. The building was awarded LEED Gold status by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute. This is BGSU’s first LEED-certified building.
Employee, alumna receive 2012 Milestones Award
February 09, 2012 - Two women with ties to Bowling Green State University have been honored with a 2012 Milestones Award from the YWCA of Northwest Ohio. Anita Serda, administrative assistant in the Office of Student Retention, won for the arts and alumna Margaret Danziger was recognized for the sciences.
New discovery regarding origins of ancient mosaics
February 07, 2012 - Research conducted by Dr. Stephanie Langin-Hooper, of Bowling Green State University (BGSU), and Dr. Rebecca Molholt, of Brown University, may shed new light on the origin of 12 pieces of ancient mosaics in BGSU’s art collection.
Russian folk performers to give free shows
February 07, 2012 - Experience the color and energy of traditional Russian folk dance and music during the Golden Gates Russian Folk Music and Dance Troupe’s visit to the Bowling Green State University and BGSU Firelands campuses next week. The troupe will present two free family concerts, plus workshops and class visits.
Julianne Malveaux to give Black History Month talk
February 06, 2012 - College president, labor economist, columnist, noted author and thought leader — all these terms apply to Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Bowling Green State University’s Black History Month speaker. Malveaux will give a free talk on “Surviving and Thriving” at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
Pro Musica hosts fifth annual Coffee and Classics

BGSU pianist honors John Cage at concert
February 06, 2012 - The audience at Thomas Rosenkranz’s free, 3 p.m. piano concert Feb. 19 in the Toledo Museum of Art’s Great Gallery will hear the instrument played in a different way. Rosenkranz, an assistant professor of piano at Bowling Green State University, will perform “Sonatas and Interludes” by renowned American composer John Cage using Cage’s “prepared piano” technique.

February 03, 2012 - A record of American and international fashion, culture and society from the turn of the 20th century to today is now at the fingertips of Bowling Green State University faculty, staff and students. University Libraries recently acquired the Vogue Archive database, a complete, searchable archive of American Vogue from the first issue in 1892 to the present.
Rudisill studying Indian film dance
February 02, 2012 - While the United States is just beginning to enjoy television shows like “Dancing with the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” they have been popular in India since 1995, says Dr. Kristen Rudisill, an assistant professor of popular culture at Bowling Green State University. Rudisill left in January to spend six months as a Fulbright scholar in Chennai, India, to study the world of “film dance” competitions, an integral part of the Bollywood film industry as well as popular television.
BGSU Opera Gala launches new Wolfe Center
February 02, 2012 - Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts presents an Opera Gala as the first musical performance in the newly opened Wolfe Center for the Arts. The program begins at 8 p.m. on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 in the Thomas and Kathleen Donnell Theatre.

Book explores worldwide resonance of heavy metal
January 31, 2012 - Music has been described as the “universal language,” even apparently the harsh sounds of heavy metal. This seems to be borne out by the pervasive popularity of the genre over the last four decades. A new book co-written and edited by Bowling Green State University popular culture associate professor Dr. Jeremy Wallach, “Metal Rules the Globe: Heavy Metal Music Around the World,” traces it from Easter Island to Nepal and China to Madagascar, Brazil and beyond.
Police Integrity Lost: A Study of Law Enforcement
January 31, 2012 - A Bowling Green State University criminal justice team is developing the first national profile of police integrity through an analysis of police crime committed by sworn law enforcement officers. A National Institute of Justice (NIJ) grant in excess of $260,000 will fund the work of criminal justice faculty members Dr. Philip Stinson, principal investigator for the project, and co-investigators Drs. John Liederbach and Steven Lab. NIJ is a branch of the Office of Justice Programs at the U.S. Department of Justice.
Boundary-crossing pianist in Festival Series
January 30, 2012 - Musical boundary-crossing pianist Christopher O’Riley will give a solo performance as the next artist in Bowling Green State University’s Festival Series. Hosted by the College of Musical Arts, his concert begins at 8 p.m. Feb. 11 in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center.
Journalist to address potential for peace
January 30, 2012 - Leading geopolitical analyst Gwynne Dyer will give the third annual Nakamoto Peace Lecture at Bowling Green State University. His talk, “The End of War? Nonviolence in the 21st Century,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 2) in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater.

BGSU moves up on Peace Corps' Top Colleges Ranking
January 26, 2012 - For the second year in a row, Bowling Green State University has made it onto the Peace Corps’ list of top universities producing volunteers. This year, BGSU moved up from 25th to 21st, with 24 alumni currently serving. The University is also ranked fourth in the state for the number of Peace Corps volunteers.

Olson honored with Drum Major for Peace award
January 18, 2012 - No one was more surprised at the announcement of the winner of the 16th annual Drum Major for Peace Award than its recipient, Faith Olson, fiscal officer for the College of Education and Human Development at Bowling Green State University. The award was presented Jan. 13 during the city of Bowling Green’s 23rd annual tribute honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Lab makes big impact in world of nanoscience
January 17, 2012 - It’s a small, small world that Dr. H. Peter Lu, Ohio Eminent Scholar and professor of chemistry at Bowling Green State University, studies. An expert in biochemical nanoscience, he narrows his focus down to the motions and properties of single molecules of proteins and enzymes as they perform their biological functions. The new knowledge he and his team are generating is gaining international notice.
Cheerleaders finish fifth at nationals
January 17, 2012 - The BGSU Cheerleading Team made another successful trip to the Universal Cheerleaders Association College National Championship, finishing fifth in the nation. The competition was held Jan. 14 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Fla.

January 17, 2012 - More than 500 Bowling Green State University faculty, staff and students spent their Martin Luther King Jr. holiday getting their hands dirty as part of the fourth annual MLK Day of Service Challenge.

January 11, 2012 - U.S. News and World Report has named BGSU’s online master of education programs one of the best in the country. The ranking is part of the magazine’s listing of the Top Online Education Programs.

BGSU Festival Series
January 05, 2012 - The Bowling Green State University Festival Series begins the new year with a “Roman Carnival Spectacular” featuring the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and BGSU’s Wind Symphony. The performance takes place at 8 p.m. Jan. 19 at BGSU’s Kobacker Hall in Moore Musical Arts Center.
