BOWLING GREEN, O.—Bowling Green State University’s undergraduate art students received recognition for their work at the annual Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition opening reception on March 19. School of Art Director Katerina Ray handed out 13 awards at the event.
           
Max Manning, a senior from St. Marys majoring in 2D studies, received the James W. Strong Studio Achievement 2D Award. His paintings focus on the artificiality of contemporary human experience referring to the world of “plastic, junk food and infomercials.”

“The evolution of my work is intended to mirror the state of constant change in technology,” Manning said.
           
The recipient of the Dominick and Elizabeth Labino Art and Technology Award, Justin Playl, didn’t stick to just one medium, but combined what he has learned in different disciplines to create an actual printing press, called “The Disjunctive, Dilemmatical Printing Press (For the Dissemination of ‘Save the Trees’: A Woodcut Print with Cast Irony Elements).”

According to Playl, a 3D studies major from Wooster, his work “explores the relationship between the individual, the culture that defines their values, and the world upon which these values are enacted by putting our culture’s modern myths on a pedestal.” He lists these modern myths as “infallible ingenuity, unlimited progress and human supremacy over the world.”
           
Out of the 67 artists exhibiting work in the show, faculty members selected Tara Barnes, a 3D studies major from Bryan, as the “Outstanding Senior.”
           
The exhibition is on display until April 3 in the Dorothy Uber Bryan and Willard Wankelman galleries and is free and open to the public. The galleries are open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays, 6-9 p.m. Thursdays and 1-4 p.m. Sundays.

St. Marys:  Max Manning (49 Causeway Drive), a senior majoring in 2D studies with a focus in painting, received the James W. Strong Studio Achievement 2D Award.

Butler County
West Chester: Bevan Binder (7095 Birch Hollow Lane), a senior majoring in graphic design, received the James W. Strong Studio Achievement Graphic Design Award.

Cuyahoga County
Strongsville: Ashleigh Carrigan (20230 E. Donegal Lane), a senior majoring in 2D studies with a focus in painting, received the Alumni Association Award.

Henry County
Napoleon: Karen Knipe (300 Briarcliff Drive), a senior majoring in 3D studies with a focus in ceramics, received a College of Arts and Sciences Purchase Award.

Lucas County
Sylvania: Kyle Brieschke (5812 Eaglewood Road), a senior majoring in digital arts, received the James W. Strong Studio Achievement Digital Arts Award.

Sylvania: Allison Eding (5927 Garden Park Drive), a senior majoring in 2D studies with a focus in photography, received the Main Street Photo Award.

Waterville: Samantha Guy (5775 N. River Road), a senior majoring in 3D studies, received the James W. Strong Studio Achievement 3D Award.
 
Washington County
Belpre: Alyssa Betz (780 Ann St.), a senior digital arts major, received the Alumni Association Award.

Wayne County
Wooster: Justin Playl (711 Wildwood Drive), a senior majoring in 3D studies with a focus in sculpture, received the Dominick and Elizabeth Labino Technology Award.

Williams County
Bryan: Tara Barnes (203 Illinois Drive), a senior majoring in 3D studies with a focus in ceramics, received the Medici Circle Purchase Award and James W. Strong Outstanding Senior Award.

Wood County
Bowling Green: Rebecca Tallarigo (111 W. Evers Ave.), a senior majoring in 2D studies with a focus in painting, received a College of Arts and Sciences Purchase Award.

Niagara County
North Tonawanda: Austin Littenberg (376 Tremont St.), a senior majoring in 3D studies with a focus in glass, received a College of Arts and Sciences Purchase Award.
