27 distinguished alumni honored by BGSU

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Bowling Green State University lauded 27 accomplished graduates during the BGSU Alumni Association’s awards banquet on April 5.

The accomplished graduates represent each of the colleges and are recognized for outstanding contributions to their profession and involvement in the community.

Listed by their respective BGSU colleges, the honorees include:

College of Arts and Sciences: James L. Bailey ’67 of New Canaan, Conn., retired chief operating office of U.S. Trust and retired executive vice president of Citibank; Lynn Funkhouser ’64 of Chicago, an internationally published photographer, author, lecturer, environmentalist and leader in dive travel; Timothy F. Smith ’67 of Tontogany, retired senior vice president for business development at Sky Insurance; Christopher J. Wade ’83 of West Somerville, Mass., senior vice president at Boston Private Bank & Trust, and Marcietta Wilson-Coleman ’93 of Cleveland, an obstetrician-gynecologist with Community Health Partners Physicians Inc., Elyria.

College of Business Administration: Shah M. Ashiquzzaman ’81 of Jessore, Bangladesh, executive director of the Ahad Group in Dhaka and a professor of economics at the University of Dhaka; Michael E. Hoskins ’77 of Austin, Texas, chief technology officer and general manager for Pervasive Integration Products; E. William Ingram III ’72 of New Albany, president and chief executive officer of White Castle System Inc.; Earle A. Malm ’71 of Berkeley, Calif., chief executive officer of HighMark Capital Management in San Francisco, and Karen (Speidel) Strauss ’77 of Maumee, president of Masco Builder Cabinet Group.

Continuing & Extended Education: Daniel Ayalon ’83 of Washington, D.C., former Israeli ambassador to the United States, and Karl Herold ’69 of Frankfurt, Germany, a partner with the international law firm Jones Day and founder of Caduceus Global Advisors.

College of Education and Human Development: Dr. Susan Calvert Finn ’66 of Columbus, director of industry communications and research for Ohio State University’s Department of Nutrition and a clinical professor in the College of Medicine; Willie J. Young ’72, ’73 of Springfield, director of off-campus student services at Ohio State University; Wiley W. Blevins ’87 of New York City, vice president and editorial director of Macmillan/McGraw-Hill’s education group; Edward J. Reiter ’62 of Bowling Green, retired senior chairman of the former Sky Financial Group.

BGSU Firelands: Tina A. Frederick ’86 of Milan, chief financial officer for Daniel Frederick Architects LLC, and a real estate owner and developer; Dr. Jo-Ann Lipford-Sanders ’91, ’93 of Sandusky, associate professor and director of graduate studies in counseling at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, and Dr. Kristin M. Ryan ’00 of Galloway, general surgery resident at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Doctors Hospital West.

College of Health and Human Services: Dr. Craig W. Newman ’75, ’77 of Avon Lake, section head for audiology at the Head and Neck Institute at the Cleveland Clinic and a professor in the Department of Surgery at the clinic’s Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, and Bonnie R. Valiant ’61 of Lisle, Ill., a speech and hearing therapist in public schools and a long-time volunteer with the spina bifida associations in Illinois and nationally.

College of Musical Arts: John R. Deliman ’79 of Dublin, orchestra director and string education specialist at Upper Arlington City Schools; Edward R. Zunic ’89, ’95 of Columbus, music department chair at Upper Arlington City Schools and orchestra director at BGSU’s Summer Strings Institute, and Gretchen (Wyder) Zunic ’91 of Columbus, orchestra director at Upper Arlington City Schools.

College of Technology: Eric J. Frankl ’86 of Maumee, director of Toledo Express Airport; David M. Sokol ’84 of Olmsted Falls, president of Garland Industries Inc., and Brian L. Swope ’85 of Westerville, senior project manager for The Quandel Group.
