Unwanted buildings needed for fire training

BOWLING GREEN, O.—State Fire School at Bowling Green State University needs houses or commercial buildings that can be used for hands-on training this May.

More than 800 firefighters and other rescue personnel attend State Fire School each year. Several classes involve live fire training, and many others use structures to teach search and rescue, structural collapse rescue, and ventilation techniques that don't involve actual burning of the structures. Barns are not used for training at State Fire School.

Donated structures must be located within 30 miles of the BGSU campus. As established in a contract, property owners who donate structures will assume no liability for the training conducted on their property.

State Fire School can help with clean-up expenses after the classes have finished, with the property owners supplying dumpsters at the site and disposing of the debris. Property owners should also consult their tax advisors about their eligibility for a tax deduction as a result of their donation.

State Fire School is coordinated by Continuing & Extended Education at BGSU.
