Memorial service Saturday for two international students

BOWLING GREEN, O.—A memorial service for two Bowling Green State University graduate students who died last month in a traffic accident will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 16) in 202A Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

International students Sweety Mazumdar and Apsana Giri died of injuries sustained in a traffic accident as they returned from a trip to Chicago.

Giri, a native of Nepal, was a master's degree student in biological sciences.

Mazumdar, who was studying for a master's degree in geology, was from India.

During the memorial service representatives from the Hindu Temple of Toledo will conduct a puja (poo-ja). The worship ceremony has several components, which include sacred chants as well as an offering of flowers and food to deities, retrieving the blessed food and consuming it.

Also taking part in the memorial service will be BGSU President Sidney Ribeau and representatives of international student programs, the India Student Association and faculty in the departments of biological sciences and geology at the University.
