LCCC student to get BGSU degree Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Andrew Holewiecki personifies the partnership between Bowling Green State University and Lorain County Community College.

Holewiecki, who is from Amherst, attended LCCC for two years and still works there as a lab assistant. But he completed his bachelor's degree in biology through a program offered by BGSU at the community college and on Saturday (Dec. 16), he will become the first program graduate to walk in a commencement ceremony on the Bowling Green campus.

“We (program participants) received the same education as the students at BGSU, and I wanted to be a part of the graduation,” said Holewiecki, 23. He is the second person to graduate from the three-year-old degree program. The first, Angela Maziarz of Elyria, received her diploma at LCCC in May.

In the partnership program, which Holewiecki called “a good opportunity for people in Lorain,” classes are offered through distance-learning technology as well as in person.

Even after getting his degree Saturday during ceremonies beginning at 10 a.m. in BGSU's Anderson Arena, the Firelands High School graduate will continue his association with both institutions. He plans to be a lab instructor at LCCC during spring semester and enter graduate school at BGSU next fall.
