Free event to focus on teaching math and science
BOWLING GREEN, O.—Area teachers are invited to hear a talk by Dr. Larry Lowery, a national leader in science and mathematics
education, Saturday (Sept. 16) at Bowling Green State University.
Lowery will speak at the Center of Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education (COSMOS) Blast-Off, which begins with a
free breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. in 210 Mathematical Sciences Building on the BGSU campus. All in-service
and pre-service K-16 teachers may attend free of charge.
Lowery's interactive presentation, “The Nature of Inquiry and How the Brain Works,” will focus on what educators can do to
enhance the learning of science and mathematics by students of all ages.
A professor emeritus of science and math education at the University of California-Berkeley, Lowery heads the Full Option
Science System produced by Delta Education. He is the author of 31 books and more than 50 articles on teaching, from the elementary
to the college level, and has won national awards for his research and teaching.
