AIMS students present research
BOWLING GREEN, O.—Four undergraduate students in Bowling Green State University's Academic Investment in Math and Science
(AIMS) program presented their research Aug. 10 and 11 at the Ohio Science and Engineering Conference in Columbus.
Representing BGSU at the statewide meeting were Krystle Zuniga of Harlingen, Texas; Maria Brown of Southfield, Mich.; Brandon
Young of East Cleveland and Tarrah Graham of Farrell, Pa. Their faculty co-authors of the research were, respectively, Dr.
Sue Houston, an associate professor of family and consumer sciences; Dr. Paul Morris, an associate professor of biological
sciences; Dr. Michael Ogawa, a professor and chair of the BGSU chemistry department, and Dr. John Laird, a professor and chair
of the physics and astronomy department
AIMS seeks to increase the number of women and students of color who graduate from Bowling Green with majors in mathematics,
computer and natural sciences. Two-thirds of the 18 students who entered the program in 2002 graduated in four years with
an average grade point average of about 3.3. Twenty new students recently entered AIMS with completion of a required five-week
summer program.
