New science class a hit with students
BOWLING GREEN, O.—If there's any question about current interest in forensic science—fueled by the popular “CSI” television
shows—Bowling Green State University can help answer it.
An introductory course in the field filled to the maximum 30 students virtually overnight when it was announced on the eve
of spring semester in January. It's full again for this fall, as is a 25-student section of the class being taught for the
first time to freshmen in the BGeXperience values exploration program.
The forensic science course is aimed at non-science majors, as is a course on “Life in Extreme Environments,” which is being
developed in the fall for a planned debut next spring.
Both courses are part of an effort by BGSU's College of Arts and Sciences “to explore new and exciting curriculum offerings
in the sciences,” notes Dr. Roger Thibault, the college's executive associate dean for resources, planning, facilities and
personnel.
“We have made it a high priority to enhance our non-majors science courses that satisfy BG Perspective (general education)
science credit with contemporary offerings that are attractive to students,” according to Thibault. “We also hope that such
offerings will encourage many students to consider majoring in science as well.”
