Buckeye Boys State delegates on campus
BOWLING GREEN, O.—Some 1,300 high school juniors from around Ohio are expected to attend the American Legion's 2006 Buckeye
Boys State program, which opens June 10 on the Bowling Green State University campus.
The annual “learn by doing“ program has been giving young men the chance to operate mock city, county and state governments
each summer since 1936. The program has been held at BGSU since 1978.
Among government officials scheduled to appear are State Sen. Randy Gardner (R-Bowling Green), who will give the keynote address
at 8 p.m. Saturday (June 10), and State Rep. Stephen Buehrer (R-Delta), who will be inducted into the Boys State Hall of Fame
during the 8 p.m. assembly Sunday (June 11), in Anderson Arena.
Ohio Chief Justice Thomas Moyer will conduct the swearing-in ceremonies for the Buckeye Boys State governor on Tuesday (June
13), and Ohio Governor Bob Taft is scheduled to visit with the Boys State delegates the morning of June 16. Other local and
state government officials will take part in the nine-day program as well.
Buckeye Boys State will conclude with graduation ceremonies on June 18.
