I MUSICI to substitute for Mozarteum Orchestra BOWLING GREEN, O.—I MUSICI, an internationally acclaimed chamber orchestra from Rome, will perform March 2 on the Bowling
Green State University Festival Series instead of the previously announced Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg. Pianist Stephen
Hough remains as soloist for the Lois M. Nitschke Memorial Concert.
The Mozarteum Orchestra was forced to cancel its entire 2006 U.S. tour due to the loss of Austrian governmental subsidy and
an inability to raise sufficient sums from other sources.
“We were lucky to be working with an excellent artists’ manager, who made a huge effort to find an ensemble of equal artistic
standards to take over this tour—and on very short notice,” said Deborah Fleitz, director of public events at Bowling Green’s
College of Musical Arts. “A chamber orchestra known throughout the world, I MUSICI will be a wonderful addition to the Festival
Series.”
Founded in 1952 in Rome, the ensemble is made up of graduates of the prestigious Accademia di Santa Cecilia. I MUSICI’s remarkable
quality has always been to extract from its ensemble all the required soloists—individually and in diverse instrumental combinations.
This allows the ensemble to offer programs that are richly balanced both in styles and tonal colors.
The group has an astonishing list of recordings, which reflect the total dedication and respect for the style and taste of
each composer. The New York Times has raved about I MUSICI, noting, “in every style they bring the essential impulse of life—the
result is playing of verve, stylistic purity and impeccable artistry.”
The all-Mozart program at Bowling Green will include the “Serenata Notturna,”“Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” and “Piano Concerto
No. 14 in E-flat major,” with Hough as the featured soloist.
