BGSU names Parent of the Year BOWLING GREEN, O.—A Bowling Green State University staff member from Portage has been named BGSU’s Parent of the Year.
Tamara Sharp of Portage (454 E. Main St.), is a publications specialist in the University’s Social Philosophy and Policy Center.
She was chosen as Parent of the Year from among a record 47 nominees, the BGSU Office of Campus Involvement and the University
Activities Organization announced.
Sharp was nominated by her daughter, Amanda, a BGSU senior who described her mother as “very dedicated and loving.”
“Over the last 10 years, while working two jobs and raising her two daughters, she attended BGSU in the evenings and on her
lunch hour, earning her bachelor’s degree,” wrote Amanda Sharp. “She is now attending the American culture studies graduate
program, again in her ‘spare time.’
“Throughout all of my life, my mother has always been there, supporting and encouraging me,” the sociology major added. “As
I've gotten older, I am truly astounded at what a great mother she is and always has been. I can't even fathom the amount
of time and energy, not to mention the determination, it has taken her to accomplish what she has.”
Sharp, whose other daughter, Emily, is a BGSU graduate student in organization development, will be University President Sidney
Ribeau’s guest at Saturday’s Falcon Family Weekend football game against Western Michigan. In addition, she will receive a
gift basket and complimentary hotel accommodations as part of the honor.
