Broadway star Craig Schulman visits campus

BOWLING GREEN, O.–Singer and actor Craig Schulam, whose Broadway credits include “Le Miserables,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “Jekyll & Hyde, “ will visit Bowling Green State University Oct. 4-5 for a mini-residency at the College of Musical Arts.

A veteran of Broadway productions, national and international tours in such starring roles as Jean Valjean, the Phantom and Jekyll & Hyde, Schulman will present educational activities for high school and college students, as well as a live public performance.

Schulman’s residency, the second in the Dorothy E. and DuWayne H. Hansen Musical Arts Series, is supported by Dorothy and DuWayne Hansen, alumni and friends of the College of Musical Arts and BGSU.

The Dorothy E. and DuWayne H. Hansen Musical Arts Series Fund was created in 1996 to bring to campus and the Bowling Green community significant representatives of the musical arts to share their talents with undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Musical Arts and with residents of the community. The inaugural event in the series, last September’s appearance by “Sesame Street” star Bob McGrath, was a huge success, according to Deborah Fleitz, director of public events.

Fleitz said that during his stay, Schulman will conduct master classes with BGSU voice and theater students, as well as work with several talented high school students nominated by their teachers. He will also speak with students enrolled in an introductory opera class, sharing his experience in switching back and forth between the worlds of opera and musical theater.

An evening of musical theater selections, featuring Craig and his music director, Sue Anderson on piano, will be presented at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in Bryan Recital Hall of the Moore Musical. The evening recital is free and open to the public.
